New Look to Old Coin

picture from: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SmartSpending/blog/page.aspx?post=1653059&_blg=1,1653059

The U.S. penny has recently gotten a face-lift and is now being minted with a new image on it’s back side. Yes, President Lincoln is still the face of the one-cent coin, but the “tails” side of the coin features a union shield with 13 vertical strips, which represent the original 13 states and a scroll draped across that reads, “One Cent”, which represent one government throughout the 13 states.

This new design comes out only one year after four reverse designs were released in 2009; where each design represented a different stage in Lincoln’s life.

This new penny was released into circulation on February 11th, but may not be seen for awhile since there are so many one-cent coins currently in circulation. Although some think the penny has overstayed it’s welcome by being in circulation so long, it seems it is still here to stay.

What do you think, do you like the idea of having a one-cent coin? What about the new look, is it attractive and deserving enough?
